GGJ 2011 preview: Noah More Heroes
Submitted by admin on Sat, 01/29/2011 - 16:56The half way mark of the Global Game Jam 2011 in New Zealand has been reached. Also, world wide every site has started, so I can announce that the theme of the Game Jam is "Extinction".
The game that we're working on (The team consists of five members, myself, Anthony, Andrew, Michael and Sergio) is called "Noah More Heroes" (Don't ask). It's a game where you, as a Noah-like person (maybe Noah himself) has to build an ark before a flood, get animals onto it to eat, while at the same time fighting off pirates. Also, it's not a one-off flood, the flood comes and goes perpetually. It's all a bit bizarre, but we've had a heck of a lot of laughs making the game.

Bizarre is good! Sounds and looks great.
Go team go! I know you can do it.
Thanks Sam! Game's done, full blog post is coming tomorrow. It can be downloaded from here - http://globalgamejam.org/2011/noah-more-heroes
Just downloaded it and I love it. It was only on my third attempt that I managed to build a boat. Then I was so happy to be floating around, beating up pirates that I forgot all about food until it was almost too late. Then it was a frantic search for the source of the bleatings. Survival gameplay at its best! I'm going back for more!
Yay! 254 seconds! It can all get pretty violent and crazy at times.
Only problems I've noticed so far:
- When the game first loads, the main menu sounds fine, with some music playing.
But every time you die and go back to the main menu, there's this insanely loud 'splashing' noise.
- When you're running around in the water, or even sailing your boat, you seem to sometimes get stuck on
invisible objects / barriers. This can mean the difference between life and death!
Thanks for the feedback Sam, we've already taken care of a couple of issues in the working build. Hopefully we'll have a new edition up in the weekend.
