Hey, remember me? I helped you do a couple models for you game Derelict. How are things? Any new game projects going on? I'm actually working at a game company now as an effects artist.
Been playing around with the Unity Engine too. Pretty neat stuff. Let me know if you have any new games.
Craig
Yep, I remember you. Did you get the email I flicked you a couple of days back?
Derelict is the best freeware i have ever been playing please make more games like that one
Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback =)
Is this multiplayer? Email me if it is...
Fraid' not, that might come in future though. I couldn't send to your email address.
Hey, so for whatever reason... When the game tries to load a level, I get a "Memory access violation" error and it shuts down. Despite this, however, the editor has no problem loading them. An issue with multi-core processors, maybe?
Sorry to hear that, I don't think it's a dual-core system issue as the last version was developed on an Intel Core Duo 2 system. Surprised to see the level editor still works perfectly though!
I'd download it freshly and extract it to a new folder and try it again. If that fails, then I'd be keen to try and make a version of the game that works on your system. Please get in touch via the contact page if you want to help out with playtesting.
Oh my goodness! This game looks so dang awesome! When my download finishes I will give you a feedback of the game.
Cheers Mike, hope you enjoy it.
THE BEST FREE GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude! O_o thanks so much, really glad to hear you think so :)
looks like a squad based Area 51 style game, and i loved that one, so this looks good
Thanks, though I've never played Area 51. Hope it doesn't disappoint!
I know where the style comes from. It comes from an old classic favorite of mine, "Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels", for the PC and PSX. It has the strategic style from the board game and the playstation and PC game that I love so much. This is very well done and I have to say, I am very impressed with it. I would review it and get this downloaded more times, but I already gave it to someone else.
Thanks mate, much appreciated, and yes it's definitely Space Hulk inspired =D.
Also, I happen to be a fan of reviews of terrible games, but I wasn't aware of your channel. I've subscribed.
I appreciate it. If my friend Ken doesn't review this game, I will. I hope he does, we've been reviewing games for a long time now. lol
Heh, awesome, I'm really looking forward to it. You and Ken aren't obligated to go easy on it ;)
Hi !
I'm french and I tried Your game...
And I love it !
He is on of the best free game I've ever played.
I'm a programmer, and I can guess the work you've make.
So, continue.
Jolfo.
Thanks Jolfo, much appreciated =) I'll try out your games sometime.
It looks like a great game and I really want to play it but every time I start it up my character automaticlly starts starring at the ceiling, spinning to his left and firing uncontrollably. my cursor acts normally during all of the menu screens so I dont think its my mouse, any suggestions?
Hmm.. that's a tricky one, sorry you're having that difficulty. I take it you don't have any joysticks or other game controllers plugged in that might be interfering?
Also, what Operating System are you running? Does it do the same thing on Blow Stuff Up?
I've now seen this bug first hand. It happens when the game is started with a Digital gamepad plugged in. The XBox 360 controller is the only one officially supported by Derelict, and unfortunately with Blitz3D I can't tell it to ignore other kinds of gamepad.
Long story short, it should work fine if you start the game without any controllers connected.
how do u play this thing!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry if you're having trouble playing it, is there anything in particular you don't understand?
It's quite different from a regular FPS as you have to manage the squad of five Marines. The goal of each level is more or less the same - move the five Marines to the exit. You can control them individually by pressing 1-5 or like in a Real Time Strategy by pressing Tab to bring up the map.
It's a great game, and best of all it's free. I'm a long-time fan of Space Hulk, and you managed to not only capture the spirit of that game, but you added some great elements like the marines each having his special ability. Just one thing though, I've not managed to figure out if it's possible to order an marine to walk backwards (when I'm not directly controling him).
Thanks for commenting Moneor, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
It is indeed possible to get the AI Marines to walk backwards, though I'll admit it isn't very intuitive and useful for combat. A Marine will walk backwards if his next step is directly behind him (until he backs into a wall or a door etc). So, for instance, if the destination is directly to the right on the map, a Marine will walk to it backwards if he's facing left until at least the point when he needs to change direction.
I'll think about how to make a more intuitive backwards walk (such as a command like 'turn around' or 'follow backwards') in a future release.
Looks cool I'm downloading now and I will give you a feed back later.
Cool, hope you enjoy!
Do You have French translation of Derelict, please?
If you do not have it, do you want it for free? I can do it, but slowly.
Hi RedGuff, thanks heaps for your kind offer. Unfortunately there's currently no way to translate the text of Derelict (so only the English language version exists), but I'd love to have a French speech pack if you were interested in doing one (It's just some speech files that have to be replaced).
I do have two games where the text can be translated quite easily (Kiwi's Tale and Blow Stuff Up) if you were interested in looking at those.
Hello there :D
I was having trouble starting up Derelict. Whether I open the game.exe, Derelict.exe, or editor.exe, a small window opens for two seconds and closes again. I've tried fiddling with compatibility settings but nothing's working. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium x86 and I have a Pentium dual-core processor. I don't see any reason why this game shouldn't run. Please help!
Thank you!
Hi Kelyn, sorry that you're having trouble. I can't think of anything in particular that could be causing an issue other than an it could be a corrupt download. Do you mind downloading the game from scratch again? Also could I get you to check everything has extracted into the proper folders (there should be folders called language and media)
Okay, I'm re-downloading the game now. One thing I forgot to mention that could have an effect is that I have Intel integrated graphics. I'll report back when I've downloaded the game again though.
Thanks. Unfortunately there could be a dozen factors that could be stopping the game from working. Good luck.
Yeah, it still doesn't work :/
It could be due to some permissions being screwed up but I've made sure everything's fine. Something I found was that Lego Wolf3D doesn't display anything in the game except for the menus and OSDs so maybe it's something to do with missing drivers or broken 3D renderers (if that's possible).
Would it be possible for me to attach something to the process to check for what makes it crash (missing files, etc.)?
Try:
http://earok.net/games/derelict-debug.exe
It's a debug build of the derelict executable, which may throw an error explaining the issue.
The same thing happened...
Do you have any other suggestions?
Sorry mate, out of ideas =(
Hello Earok, I found Derelict years ago on caiman.us years ago and still absolutely love the game today. It perfectly brings out the terror that anyone looks for in a horror game. One thing that really makes a game scary, in my opinion, is the music; I think that the music in the game is also absolutely amazing. I just wanted to ask, did you make the music yourself, and if not where did you get it from? Thank you for taking the time to give us such a great game =)
Thank you so much, I love it when someone gets in touch about one of my games =D
Unfortunately I didn't do any of the music. The main menu theme, as well as the piano track, are by Kristie Addison (she also did the bulk of the sound effects, the footsteps are her own she did the monster noises with her own voice). The other tracks were donated by various different people, they're all listed on the credits.
Oh I didn't even see that in the credits haha, thank you for the information! Just want to say again how this game is top-notch in its genre, thank you so much for creating it.
How do you download the games to play them? I've gone to your site and saw the games there and would REALLY like to play them but I can't find where to download them. Thanks for your help in advance, Ron H.
Hi Ron, there's a download link on each of the games pages (including this very one). Look for the Downloads section underneath the screenshots and above the comments.
I want to sleep, to forget. To chgnae the past. My wife and baby girl back. Unlimited ammo and a licence to kill. Процитировал Макс Пейна день прошел не зря.
Lol, that's some message mysterious russian!
As a general rule I don't allow spam on the site. However, that one was just interesting enough for me to leave as is (except that I've stripped away the URL)
Is there any way I can make Derelict multiplayer LAN? or Can i alteast change the controls for player 2? Much Thanks
Is there any way I can make Derelict multiplayer LAN? or Can i alteast change the controls for player 2? Much Thanks
Hi Jonathan, I'm afraid there's not, an XBox 360 controller is definitely required for player two. I'm quietly planning to port the game to Unity at some point, and if I do that then I will build LAN/Internet multiplayer in from the start.
