The Kiwi's TaleWitchBlasterDerelict Blow Stuff Up

Wanted: Collaborators for a game project. ANY game project!

It's been a while since I've worked on a personal game project, and it's something I want to get back into, but I'd like to do so with collaborators with some sort of common vision.

I'm looking for anyone who has the time to contribute anything at this point; audio, art, level design, even coding providing we can come to a mutual agreement on the language and framework to use. (Monkey's my favoured framework for 2D development, Unity for 3D, but I'm fairly flexible and I can pick up other languages reasonably quickly).

At this point I'm not particularly picky about projects, but I'll list a few projects I've been dwelling on:

  1. Another FPS, preferrably something with an early 90s pseudo 3D look. Maybe a remake of Derelict, or something adventure/RPG-ish.
  2. Dusting off "Multiplex", which was to be a game inspired by the C64 classic Lazy Jones. Basically you'd have a series of terrible multiplayer minigames (fake movie tie-ins with titles like Inception 2: Inception and Superman 64 Returns) tied together with a hub system that itself is a mini game.
  3. The WitchBlaster sequel, "WitchBlasters", which was intended to be a metroidvania type game that combined platforming and shoot-em-up scenes. I've been thinking recently about doing it in an isometric style, so it'd be like a weird combination of Head over Heels, Zaxxon and Desert Strike.

If you're keen to collaborate on something, please leave a comment and we'll start planning.

If you make a game of mini-games I'll happily contribute a guest mini-game or two. Likewise if you need someone to create levels for another project I would be happy to do that too.

While I am keen. I don't think I would be committed. :P

I've been looking for an excuse to learn me some 3D modeling, so a 90's style FPS in unity could be fun!

Thanks guys! I'll keep you both in mind.

As it happens I've thought of an idea that you might both be interested in contributing to, I'll post some more once I've started prototyping it.

Wow... the sprite artworks will require intensive works to complete for isometric style.
Anyway, I still need to finish the WitchBlaster overdue sprite arts before redesigning the
witches for the sequel.

@Anthony heh, don't worry, WitchBlasters probably won't be for awhile now. Looking forward to seeing the final artwork for WitchBlaster =)

My deadline of trying to have Souless & Powerslam ready for iOS by the end of Janurary is creeping up faster than expected so my hands are kinda tied. Once my business launch deadline has passed though I can help out with graphics for any of the projects you want to take on.

Hello. I'm interested in collaborations on a game project. Check out my blog for an example of my work.

Art: Pencil drawings/Goache paintings from life (street scenes, landscapes, figures etc). Developed further with digital painting

Low poly 3d modeling

Lighting and cameras in a 3d scene

Programming: Python (pygame). Modules experience: autopy, urllib2, twitter, reddit. I'm passionate about  exploring APIs though Python and have experience working with Twitter and Last.fm API. I like the idea of mixing APIs into a game.

If you are interested in working on something please get in contact via email: hammersmake@gmail.com

Thanks.

@William welcome! I love your artwork man. I'm sure it could be part of a really interesting game. Have you signed up to playmaker.org.nz? I know there's a few Wellington based game developers that go there sometimes, you may be able to find someone to collaborate with. I'd be keen to work with you myself but I don't know python at all!

@Zwai I don't know what the game project should be about either! At this stage if someone wants to work with me I'm happy to negotiate the design (or maybe just let the other person take care of the art/audio/design and I just code). Do you have any suggestions?

What kind of Game is possible for you. I dont really know something about making Games. I am just here to help you with 3d Models because i dont know much about program a Game. :D

@zwai what sort of 3D models do you like to make? vehicles? characters? weapons? furniture? scenery?

@chirinea cheers Gui, I appreciate it =)

Zwai (not verified)

I think i can do all of these, but i am not good with Human faces or other Biological Models. Say what you need and i´ll do my best. :D

Are you able to model giant robots by chance? Something resembling this? http://earok.net/sites/default/files/images/sketching_with_the_ipodt_02_by_alt_l-d4vaadu.preview.png

Zwai (not verified)

I can try it, but i may need a bigger Picture of this Concept Art. :D

I think this is the biggest version I have, it was sketched on an iPhone so I don't know if there's a higher res version than this - http://earok.net/sites/default/files/images/sketching_with_the_ipodt_02_by_alt_l-d4vaadu.png

Alternatively, if there's anything on here you'd like to have a go at modelling, please be my guest!

Ok thank you this will help me. So i am trying to model this Robot, I guess this is for your Battlesuit Aplha. Dont expext a Masterpiece this is just my Hobby. :D I´ll post a Picture when I am finished.

Zwai (not verified)

Here is the first Picture, i hope it´s good enough. I think i make a new Head-Form, because I think in a Giant Robot, which gets controlled by a Human sitting in a Cockoit in this Robot, there´s no need for a actually Human "Face"(2 Eyes). I think I´ll make a Face which looks like a Cockpit, if you agree me. :D

OK I am finished now, I think. Now I am looking for a new Head design, if you have some Ideas, please tell me.

Wow, that's looking awesome, I'm impressed :) thanks for doing that.

Are you able to UV Wrap it, and rig and animate it?

Also regarding the helmet, it's meant to look as though it's wearing a Coal-Shuttle type helment (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stahlhelm ), also it draws some inspiration from Killzone.

We haven't really decided where the pilot is sitting, in most anime giant robot shows (which this is based on) the pilot is situated in the chest.

Zwai (not verified)

I know it should look like a Helmet, but i think a Pilot cockpit looks better. I changed a Few things now you can decide, which one do you like more. Then I have to say that I am i completely Noob with Texturing. :( I can make a simple UV Map with 3d Body Paint, but this looks sometimes very strange.

Hey that does look really cool, the cockpit (especially the windscreen and "mouth") reminds me a lot of the ED-209.

Even if it isn't strictly realistic, I wanted the overall looks of the mechs to reflect the warrior cultures of the nations that produced them, in this case early 20th century Germany. (We'd also intended for mechs to resemble suits of armor from feudal Japan and medieval Europe, some of them were present in the deviantart image - http://earok.net/sites/default/files/images/sketching_with_the_ipodt_02_by_alt_l-d4vaadu.preview.png )

That said, I'm completely open to compromise to get the look. One thing I was thinking of was a helment with a Robocop type visor instead of eyes, what do you think?

Just out of curiosity, how many poly is it, and is it possible to reduce the number of polys if necessary?

Zwai (not verified)

I am from Germany. :D I think a Robocop type could be a good Helmet design. This Robot have ca. 5000 Polygons, but can reduce allot of them, by changing the shoulder pads or giving the Robot a new Arm design.(the Hands have allot of Polys)

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CljvHMD4IrM/UFGmdFN14KI/AAAAAAAAG14/cipeNC6WrS...

I think this Arm design, nakes the Robot more realistic and I can save allot of Polys. :D

Zwai (not verified)

But I have to say that I dont want to work for your Battlesuit Projekt, sorry but I have some good Ideas for a New Game Projekt and I need your help, because I have no expirience with Game design. So if you want to, we can start a brand new Projekt. :D

Hi Zwai, what sort of project did you want to work on?

Zwai (not verified)

Hi, I don´t know if this kind of Game is able for us to make but it´s a very great Idea I think and maybe we´ll find some Guys, who could help us. :D

In generell this Game should be like a build up Stratagie game, but also with Fps elements. So it would like be a MMO FPS RTS, or something like that. It is not so easy to explain, because I have some very good and complex Ideas.

But it is very difficult to create I think. So I try to start what this game should be about:

Story: The Earth is completly destroyed, of wars for the last resource of our planet. A few people could save themselve and start a new life in a small colony on the Moon. Now some explorer start to expore the deep universe. You are one of these explorer.

Beginning: You start your adventure on this Moon-colony, now you can decide what is your next step to survive.

Game Mechanics: Ok now this could be very complex, you play one of this colonists in a first person perspektive. But you can also switch to a birdperspective so you can controll your Units, you can build in later Gameplay. After you bought your first Spaceship you can travel around the univers and look for some Reccourses. This universe includes the whole Milkyway with all their known Planets (Neptun, Saturn, Earth) , but after these few Planets ther could be a near endless space with
randomly generated plantes or moons. You can choose a planet to settle down and building up a base and maybe you can be the king of the universe. :D I know this game projekt means allot of work, but maybe we can find some helping people to realise this.

I found a Gameengine, which is free for non-commercial use, so first we can use this I think. I also started to model some Spaceships for this projekt and I found a great Earth texture(freeware) we could use.

game engine: http://www.neoaxis.com/

later i post some picture of my modeled Spaceships. Hope we can start this Projekt soon. :D

Zwai (not verified)

Ok here are my Pictures, the big spaceship is not fully textured yet, but it gives you an impression of my work for this project. :D
