The Kiwi's TaleWitchBlasterDerelict Blow Stuff Up

Misc update

Sam reminded me the other day that I haven't posted here in quite awhile. I got in bit of a rut with my game development, but I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Very little has been done on the Battlesuit project of note recently, except for one really awesome thing. Check out Anthony's new sketch:

This is a new concept sketch of the MF-101 Viking, the primary enemy mech encountered in the game. The really impressive thing was that Anthony sketched it on his iPhone alone during his bus trips to work.

While Battlesuit is on the back burner (The core game is on hold, but the re-write is still going very slowly), I have started up another mini project with a mate. The working title is "Multiplex" and it's kind of a very loose tribute to/remake of an old C64 title, but with some twists that we hope will make the game fresh and interesting (and even somewhat frustrating!). I've done a couple of rough programmer-art levels with the Sega Master System palette (which I actually quite like now, it's bright, varied and vibrant but not too gawdy). Check it out, and see if you can guess what the inspiration game was:

Multiplex is looking to be very cool already. I'll be watching this one closely.

Cheers mate. We're going to have a meeting tomorrow about the basic design of all the mini-games etc we'll do. We'll try not to disappoint!

So it takes place in a multiplex cinema, eh? Nice! Should be lots of opportunity for fun 'movie' moments. As for the inspiration - My first thought was Elevator Action (which, as I type it, sounds desperately like a porn flick). Then the second screen reminds me of Project Firestart. But it's probably something I have never played! I'm intrigued, anyway! Good luck :)

Cheers mate.

I've had a couple of people mention that they'd have guessed Elevator Action if it wasn't for the second screenshot, though the first person to guess on my Google Plus post about the game got it right. Actually because of that suggestion I was thinking of making the theatre hub system into an Elevator Action clone, but I ended up doing something different.

Speaking of which, first gameplay screenshot:

I love these retro-remake type games.  I guess my first thoughts when I saw the screenshots were Elevator Action and Mystery Science Theater 3000.  Other than that, I feel like I recognize a room like the second screenshot from somewhere in my childhood, but I'm going to have to think about it more.  Just out of curiosity, who are you having do the music?

Cheers mate. I was actually thinking of having cameos of Tom Servo and Crow T Robot in the theatre.

I guess the game kind of is a MST3K type set up - except for bad games!

Currently my project partner is doing the music, I believe he's planning to perform guitar for the game.
