How to Play

Firestart is a first person shooter that requires you to complete a number of goals on the UTA Prometheus in order to be successful.

  1. Collect the Science log from the Science labs.
  2. Activate the self destruct from the bridge.
  3. Rescue a survivor, if there are any.
  4. Escape.

Depending on the difficulty setting, a number of different complications may arise that will make it more difficult to complete your goals.

Story

2283. For the past 15 years, Earth's United Terran Alliance has been at war with her former colonies, collectively known as the Greater Space Coalition.

In an effort to regain the upper hand in the conflict, the UTA military has begun covertly funding illegal science projects.

UTS Prometheus, a research vessel orbiting Mars, is the base for their most secretive research program: Firestart.

Following a sudden communications blackout on the Promtheus, you have been assigned to investigate.

About

Originally created for the Retro Remakes 2006 competition, the game was not well received, due to a multitude of crippling bugs resulting from the extremely short (10 week) development time, general lack of polish and the radically different design to the C64 original.

Fortunately, there were a few fans, and thanks to developing the game I came into contact with Sam Jeffreys, who has been a massive help to almost all of my freeware projects since. The game also received a mention from Damon Slye, who worked on the original Project Firestart.

This new version, while still not a fantastic game, represents by far the best version yet.

Hope you enjoy
